As an Australian living in the United Arab Emirates who has spent her childhood in both countries, she is strongly influenced by the vastness, light, and magnificence of the landscapes of these two places. Nika often blends locations together, along with dream imagery, to create an imaginary place. A pull towards open spaces and an early love of math, mean that the geometry of horizon lines feature in much of her work. I adopt environmentally-friendly painting practices where possible, without solvents or turpentine, reusing, repurposing and recycling where I can. I minimize the use of more toxic materials to use just enough to create a desired effect. Overall, my objective is to create uplifting and thought-provoking work, highlighting the beauty of the world around us, and how vital plants and other animals are to us and to the planet.
